Personal Profile

I aim to create a discourse between the real and the imaginary, conflating postmodern philosophy with comic book visual narratives, as a fine artist, illustrator and animator. A strong doll theme runs parallel throughout my practice as part of this investigative process.

Collaborative Work

May – August 2007
Helen was invited to make dolls in collaboration with the artist and musician Magne Furuholmen (of the Norwegian band A-ha) via Magne’s myspace blog, and also through the A-ha mailing list.
Two dolls were created out of fabric, wadding, wire and stitch, of the artist; “Manga Magne” and “Minor Magne” and were exhibited in Magne’s “Scrabble" exhibition at Sørlandets Kunstmuseum, Kristiansand,Norway, along with approximately 130 other dolls made by others.
In return for Helen's contribution Magne sent a personally signed thankyou letter and limited edition CD of the sound part of the installation.
These dolls can be seen here: http://www.magnef.net/dolls/

Helen's email signature was one of four links chosen by Magne for his website; click on the word "think" here: http://www.magnef.net/index2.html#

I was invited as part of my degree, to assist an emerging artist with his installation. This involved role play and liaising with the public. The installation was “Fair Play” by Tim Bryant.

Spalding Parish C of E Day School, Clay Lake, Spalding.

This role involved assisting children of Year 1 with the use of the computer, developing their reading skills, general support in the classroom with the teacher; helping where needed with class work, and assisting other staff setting up equipment for P.E. Also supervising children during Sports Day, and encouraging them with their Sports Day artwork, which I found particularly enjoyable.
