Black Jack Davy
 Black Jack Davy
 character for animation

Black Jack Davy is from the Child Ballads, reinterpreted  musically by 1970s folk rock band Steeleye Span, and  more recently by The White Stripes.
Black Jack Davy follows on from the dolls made as part  of Magne Furuholmen's "Scrabble" Exhibition, he is  made in the same way as Manga Magne. Information.
He is shown holding "The Lady", which is a painting  from The Squire's collection.

In keeping with Steeleye Span's All Around My Hat  album cover design, Black Jack's face has the same  anamorphic projection as the faces of the band, meaning  that his face can only be viewed normally from an  orthagonal angle.

Black Jack Davy

Late last night when the squire came home,
enquiring for his lady,
Some denied and some replied
"she's gone with the Black Jack Davy"
"Go saddle for me the bonny brown steed,
the grey was never so speedy
I'll ride all day and I'll ride all night
Till I catch that Black Jack Davy."

He rode up hills and he rode down dales,
over many a wild high mountain,
and they did say that saw him go
Black Jack Davy he is hunting

He rode east and he rode west
All in the morning early
until he spied his lady there
cold and wet and weary
"Why did you leave your house and land?
Why did you leave your babies?
To go with the Black Jack Davy?"

He rode up hills and he rode down dales,
over many a wild high mountain,
and they did say that saw him go
Black Jack Davy he is hunting

"What care I for goosefeather bed?
Your sheets turned down so bravely?
When I may sleep on the cold, hard ground
Along with the Black Jack Davy?"

Then I'll kick off my high heeled shoes
Made of the Spanish leather
And I'll put on my lowland brogues
And skip it o'er the heather

He rode up hills and he rode down dales,
over many a wild high mountain,
and they did say that saw him go
Black Jack Davy he is hunting

The Lady

 The Lady
 character for  animation

The Lady is possessed by the Squire, she is a kept woman, a  commodity, and a painting in his collection. She is "stolen" by  Black Jack Davy and hung in the Tate Modern instead, where  overnight, like in Bagpuss, she comes back to life,
and she  and Black Jack Davy go on the run to escape the Squire. The  Lady's hair is fully articulated for animation.
