Helen Dearnley (Blackbird) Artist/Illustrator
b. 1976
The Land Of Motionless Childhood

The Blackbird is the artist's signature; blackbirds represent the liminal realm between Waking Life and The Land Of Motionless Childhood, which is near Pinchbeck.

Helen graduated with BA (hons) Fine Art & Illustration at the University of Lincoln, 2008.

Her work is a heterogeneous mixture of differing influences including the comic book world of A-ha, Dostoyevsky, dolls, Gaston Bachelard, Baudrillard, Borges and God.
Two dolls were created in collaboration with Norwegian artist and band member of A-ha, Magne Furuholmen, in his 2007 "Scrabble" exhibition at Sorlandets Kunstmuseum, Kristiansand, Norway.
Dolls form a continuing theme throughout Helen's practice as an artist and illustrator.
Helen held two degree shows, her Fine Art Degree Show as part of the University of Lincoln's 2008 "This Is It" was based on her collaborations with A-ha and Magne Furuholmen, entitled "The Unreal God And Aspects of His Non-Existent Universe"
Helen exhibited her illustration work, which followed the doll theme, as part of New Designers, Islington, London, July 2008. For further information click on "Exhibitions".

Since graduating, Helen is developing a group for graduate artists based in Lincoln, and is available for freelance work and commission.
