Scottish National Gallery Of Modern Art

Based in Edinburgh, this composition of buildings and grounds makes up one of our favourite art galleries in Scotland. Made up of two buildings, Modern 1 and Modern 2, as well as a large sculpture park, this gallery has a little bit of everything. There are pieces from a wide range of contemporary artists so you can take your time wandering around.

Dundee Contemporary Arts

Dundee Contemporary Arts

The gallery named Dundee Contemporary Arts has been in its site since 1999. There is a lot of ground to explore when it comes to this centre, as they have two contemporary art galleries, a cinema, a print studio, a video research centre and even a café bar. The great thing about this quirky gallery is that they feature many local artists as well as their international peers. They support their local artists greatly.

A staple in the Glasgow culture, Kelvingrove has been a mainstay in any list of the great UK or Scottish art galleries. Clashing modern with traditional and factual with fictional, this art gallery has some of the most interesting and engaging exhibitions in Glasgow.

Pier Arts Centre

Pier Arts Centre

The Pier Arts Centre is a hidden gem. Located in the far North, in Stromness, Orkney, this centre has been around since the late 70s. It was founded by Margaret Gardiner, a peace activist who donated a large collection of British fine art to the island. The collection included many iconic artists such as Barbara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson. The gallery is well worth the extra bit of travelling to get there.
